Reading directions is always difficult for first graders.  To help your child understand what is being asked in their workbooks, practice the following words:
  • underline
  • circle
  • ring
  • read
  • draw
  • add
  • subtract
  • write
  • choose
  • listen
  • use
  • find
  • solve
  • complete
  • show
  • color
  • which

 

  
We make such an effort to teach our children their telephone numbers when they are in pre-school, but many times they forget this and other important safety information.  I am always amazed to see how many first graders do not know the following: 
  • telephone number (area code is very important)
  • parent's cell phone number
  • street address (including house number)
  • where parent(s) work

Please help your child to learn this critical information.
