In Level One of the Sitton Spelling, three words are introduced each week and a review test, the Cloze Story Word Test, is given every third week. The dictation sentences that are given on the regular Friday spelling tests will also include No Excuse Words. The Cloze Story Word Tests and the sentence dictation assess long-term mastery of all previously introduced Core Words. In Level Two, five words are introduced every two weeks. Mastery continues to be assessed through Cloze Story Word Tests and sentence dictation. The students call these words No Excuse Words! because no excuses are accepted for misspelling them at any time. No excuse words must be spelled correctly across the curriculum, in any type of written work. These dates are subject to change.
